1) How whiplash occurs
Whiplash occurs when you are rear-ended in an auto collision. This causes the head into a backward motion (extension) and then a forward motion (flexion) causing the neck joints to become injured along with the overstretching of the muscles and ligaments.
2) Whiplash can occur at lower speeds
Believe it. Research has shown in impacts at only 2.5 mph, 29% of those people had symptoms of whiplash. The research also showed that at 10 mph, the impact can cause up to 9 Gs of force in the neck. At 9 Gs, your head would equal 90 pounds.
3) Symptoms may not be immediate and can be more than just neck and shoulder pain
