Tension headaches

Tension headaches are also known as stress headaches. They are the most common type of headaches in adults and teens and pain can range in severity from mild to medium. Tension headaches generally come and go.

Cluster headaches

These are headaches that are severely painful and that come and go in groups. It is the least common type but the most severe. Many people have pain that is so bad with a cluster headache that they can’t sit for long stretches and may get up and pace. Pain usually occurs behind the eyes and is constant and throbbing in nature.

Hormone headaches

Women usually get headaches during certain times of the month related to the changes in hormone levels. They can occur during their periods, pregnancy and even menopause. Birth control usage can also trigger a hormone headache.

Acute headaches

Children suffer from this type of headaches, which typically occurs abruptly and vanishes shortly after. In most cases, they are triggered by a respiratory or sinus infection.
